I was asked by a design company based in San Francisco USA, to create some motion graphics for an upcoming temporary store they were creating for the Milan International Design Show, 2012. The temporary store was for Vabene, a luxury Italian watch company and was situated on 'Piazza del Duomo', the main square in Milan during the International Design Show in April 2012. As part of the temporary fit, they wanted an 8 minute motion graphics loop to be playing all day on a screen in the store. The motion graphics needed to be based around cubes which is in line with Vabene's brand.
I had a very short amount of time to produce this motion graphics loop, with just over 1 week between being asked and the final delivery time! I started by coming up with a number of examples of types of animation we could do along the cube theme, and then I sent these across for approval. Once approved, I began to expand the ideas and begin creating them.
One of the main challenges was trying to make the cubes look very realistic and 3D within After Effects. I recently purchased a plugin which allows me to do more 3D work inside of After Effects, but at the time of making this project that plugin was not available yet! I worked hard at it though and I was very pleased with the results I managed to achieve. I also used Cinema 4D for one particular sequence just to strengthen the 3D feel.
Overall I created many different cube themed sequences and compiled them to create the full loop for the temporary store. The client was extremely happy, especially at the quick turnaround time, and I was told that the cubes received very good feedback in the store. I was also informed that at night, the projector was used to project the cubes motion graphics through the window and on to the walls outside the store. I was sent some footage of the temporary store and my graphics, so I have compiled a highlights video made up of the highlights footage and some of the cube motion graphics I created.
